Why We Made the Change

The 5th-wheel arm assembly is the pivot point that allows a unit to steer left and right once it’s connected to a load. For years, we used three different versions of this arm. Each came with its own set of parts, and over time, each developed too much play in the pivot. That “slop” led to more maintenance than we’d like to see.

The new-style arm replaces all three versions with one stronger assembly. That means less upkeep, less parts complexity, and better performance in the field.

This redesign didn’t start in a conference room. A few years back, our welding lead and his team built a prototype out of spare parts during some downtime. It worked so well that it became the foundation for this new assembly. That kind of hands-on problem solving is what keeps our products moving forward.

Maintaining and troubleshooting your DJ Products unit is typically pretty straightforward. Here are some frequently asked questions and their solutions to help you with your unit.

What should I do if my unit won’t move?

First, check that the brake is securely locked and the potentiometer is centered at 2.5kΩ. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it may be necessary to contact the service department for further assistance.

My unit only moves forward and not in reverse. How can I fix this?

Ensure the red e-stop button on the handlebar is properly reset. Twist it to the right until it pops out, revealing a green line behind the red button. If the problem persists, reseating the wires in the e-stop contact block might be required.

The attachment on my unit isn’t moving up and down. What should I check?

Turn off the key and open both back panels. Disconnect the main positive and negative battery connections. Locate wire 36 at the red junction block and check the fuse holder for continuity. Replace the fuse if needed.

My unit creeps forward when I’m not touching the handlebar. What’s wrong?

Verify that the potentiometer is centered at 2.5kΩ. If the issue continues, it’s advisable to contact the service department for further troubleshooting.

I don’t hear a “click” when I turn the key on. What should I do?

Plug the unit in and allow it to charge fully. If the problem remains, additional troubleshooting or service may be necessary.

Why isn’t my unit charging?

If the charger indicates a connection error, use a standard 12v charger to charge the battery with the error for about an hour. Then, disconnect the 12v charger and reconnect the onboard charger to complete the charging process.

My horn isn’t functioning. How can I fix it?

Inspect the horn wires and the fuse on wire 23. If replacing the fuse doesn’t solve the problem, the horn itself may need to be replaced.

My unit moves forward briefly and then stops. What should I check?

Follow the motor wires from the motor and disconnect the Delphi plug. Check the motor plug for resistance, which should be 1.3Ω. Additionally, test the potentiometer for any open spots by measuring the resistance of the red and black wires while rotating the handlebars.

Why do my tires have flat spots?

Flat spots on tires are common due to the unit being strapped down during transport. Driving the unit around will allow the foam in the tires to expand and return to their normal shape.
